Jul 14, 2009 Matt Haynes

Manchester City have pulled off a major coup in their continued quest to strengthen this summer with the sensational signing of Carlos Tevez..

The industrious Argentine striker has sparked an element of controversy in Manchester in a move that will infuriate Manchester United fans and once again cast aspersions on Sir Alex Ferguson's transfer policy.

Carlos Tevez will be handed the number 32 shirt, after he agreed terms with the club on a five-year contract.

The striker was mobbed on his arrival to Eastlands by animated Manchester City fans as he prepared to give his press conference.

Tevez was eager to stress that his move across Manchester was not motivated by money, and that he was impressed by the ambition that they showed him to become one of the biggest clubs in the world.

The player said: "As a player, money was never important. It was more about a coach that wanted me and that there is a good environment around me. That's all I wanted"

Tevez Impressed by the Ambition

The player also revealed that he was excited by the ambition that the club showed to him, and that he would fight for a starting place.

Tevez continued: "I've spoken to the owners of the club, and they've shown me their ambition to become one of the best club's in the world.

"I'm very excited to start working with Mark Hughes. In every team you have to win the respect of your team mates and you have to work alot and you have to really sweat for the shirt and i'm going to fight very hard every game to earn it."

Hughes' Praise for Carlos Tevez

Manager Mark Hughes also publicised his elation of the signing.

The former Manchester United player said: "Carlos represents good value for money.

Where we are in the development of the club, to be able to bring in one of the top strikers in the world to the club is a fantastic thing for everyone connected to Manchester City".

More Players to Follow at Man City

After already sealing the signatures of Gareth Barry, and Roque Santa Cruz in the transfer window, Mark Hughes confirmed that the club are in the market to sign more talent, with Emmanuel Adebayor the latest big name to be linked with the club.

Regarding the Adebayor situation Hughes said:"There's been discussions between ourselves and Arsenal and there's a deal to be done, but it hasn't been concluded"

With an array of top class talent already in residence at Eastlands and more reportedly set to follow, the likes of Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal, and of course Manchester United had better brace themselves, as Manchester City prepare an assault on the higher echelons of the Premier League.
