Cristiano Ronaldo seals his £80 million move to Real Madrid.

One would hope that the 80,000 Real Madrid supporters that rounded up at the Bernabeu stadium on Monday evening weren’t Christians considering they were all but bowing down to Ronaldo who was officially unveiled as their latest signing in front of the worlds press.

Ronaldo Shown Off at The Bernabeu Stadium

In typical Galactico fashion, the stadium mirrored that of a Hollywood film set, the fans floored by the sight of a famous front runner in the game today, the worlds press glued to glimpses of the winger in a Madrid shirt and the ground covered by a stage fit for the principle players who made the record breaking deal happen. The glamour, the gloss, the glory, this was as melodramatic an occasion as they come – and by this time Ronaldo hadn’t even set foot onto the ground.

Crowd in a Fit Of Frenzy

When the self regarding sensation did arrive though, a fit of frenzy broke in the crowd. Indeed no-one would have been surprised if Florentino Perez, the 62 year old President of Real Madrid, became deafened by the noise in the stands. A doctor was probably on call at the Perez household this morning to give the Madrid Chief an ear check and to confirm that his brain was in cognitive order as he repeated to himself, still in disbelief, that Ronaldo is now a Real Madrid player – a coup he has tried to grasp for three years.

Perez, last night could see what Ronaldo meant to the fans, for their white warrior was here.

"This is My Home", Ronaldo

“This is my home”, said Ronaldo at the press conference. A home with a healthy salary as the playmaker is expected to earn a reported £15 million a year. No wonder he is “so happy”, along with sponsorship obligations Ronaldo is quickly becoming the greatest earner in Sporting history.

However, there is sentiment that balances out the riches as he is fulfilling a “childhood dream” by moving to Real Madrid. Having made his name at Sporting Lisbon, he made a £12 million move to Old Trafford and it was at the Theatre of Dreams that he developed into the most valuable player in world football scoring 84 goals in a glittering six year career with Manchester United.

Ronaldo Has No Regrets

He insists though that he has no regrets about leaving the Premier League champions, “I’m going to miss many things in Manchester but this is the life...this is my new club”.

Although he made a name for himself as a diver at his old club, Ronaldo will certainly be missed in England on talent basis. No longer will he light up the wing with his staggeringly powerful runs. No longer will he brush aside premier league defenders to score sublime goals. No longer will he be the creative catalyst for Manchester United.

Manchester’s loss is Madrid’s gain but at least Ferguson has £60 million to spend to fill the void left by a man who is destined to become a Real hero.
