The Portuguese international is the most sought after player in Europe at the moment, and a brilliant season with Manchester United has linked him with a lucrative move to La Liga champions Real Madrid.
Since Cristiano Ronaldo expressed his desire to join Real Madrid a few months back, the Spanish club have done whatever they could to lure him to the Santiago Bernabeu. But until now they have had no luck, as it seems that Manchester United have been reluctant to sell the Portuguese international, because they see him as a key player for their future.
Ronaldo played a determining role as Manchester United won the UEFA Champions League and the English Premier League last season. Real Madrid are seeking a player of his caliber at all costs.
Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon affirmed that he is willing to dish out €100 million for the player, but United have replied to him that they aren’t interested. They are confident in keeping the player among their ranks for at least another season, and will not accept any kind of offer for the player no matter how important it is.
However, Cristiano Ronaldo made all the headlines last week when he stated that he will arrive in England from Portugal where he is recovering from injury, and will tell his club that he is joining Real Madrid, and that there is nothing else they can do about the issue. He is determined to move to the Santiago Bernabeu.
“Everything is good. Next week I will return to England to tell them that my only desire is to play for Real Madrid and that I am not willing to negotiate,” he stated.
The Portuguese superstar is set to meet Alex Ferguson and some other important Manchester United directors next Tuesday, and it will be then when he will reveal his already publicized intentions to join Real Madrid to the English Premier League and European champions.
Cristiano Ronaldo, who is still only 23-years-old, has been in sensational form since joining Manchester United from Sporting Lisbon in 2003. In these five years he has won several prestigious titles with the club, including the UEFA Champions League, The English Premier League, the FA Cup and the League Cup.
At a personal level he has also won his fair share of awards, and he is one of the favourites to win the FIFA Player of the Year award for the first time later this year.
